His books are on such subjects as making Jewish ritual meaningful; struggling with the meaning of masculinity in today’s world; interpreting Israel and Zionism to Jews and non-Jews; and the task of reclaiming Judaism’s central role as a takes-no-prisoners\, speak-truth-to-power-and-culture religious tradition. \nBecause of his national reputation as an American Jewish thought leader\, the Chautauqua Institution\, America’s iconic educational and cultural community\, invited Rabbi Salkin to deliver the keynote address for its week on religion\, in summer\, 2020. \nRabbi Salkin’s essays have appeared in the Washington Post\, The Huffington Post\, Tablet\, Mosaic\, Forward\, and JTA. He has discussed the American political scene on CNN and the BBC. He has contributed articles to scholarly journals. Several of his books have won national awards. \nHis colleagues have described him as “courageous\,” “always relevant\,” and “one of American Judaism’s true public intellectuals.” \nRabbi Salkin serves as the rabbi of Temple Israel in West Palm Beach\, Florida. His hobbies include playing guitar\, reading voraciously\, and consuming vast quantities of coffee.

SUMMARY:Cycling Affinity Group Ride
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the HNT Cycling Affinity Group’s inaugural ride co-organized by Jeff Kay and myself. Our rides for the first few months will be the first Sunday of the month beginning in April. This is casual and social so we won’t be racing and won’t drop riders. Jeff and/or I plan to be around for each ride. If only one of us can join any given month\, we will likely ask a volunteer participant to ride sweep (last in the group) to ensure that we don’t leave anybody behind. \nThe first ride will be a lap around Mercer Island beginning from HNT at 10am on 4/3. If you want a little longer ride (or a lot longer ride depending on where you live 😊) you are certainly welcome to ride to HNT from home. Please register for the ride here. \nIf the weather forecast & evidence are much more than light drizzle\, we will not hold the ride. I will send an email to all who registered at 8am the morning of the ride if it is cancelled due to weather. \nFinally\, this is a social group ride. Helmets are mandatory and other than that\, you are accepting responsibility and risk for your own safety and bicycling capabilities by joining the ride. HNT\, Jeff and Steve do not accept liability for any incidents or injuries that may occur while you are out riding your own bike with our group. \nI’m looking forward to riding together. \nSteve Luper
