SUMMARY:Shabbat Services with Zoom Live Broadcast
DESCRIPTION:We are discouraging – but not outright banning – people from attending Shabbat services. We will have arranged enough people to come to have a minyan – please don’t come because you’re worried we need you for a minyan. \nShabbat services will be broadcast live on the internet\, using Zoom at https://zoom.us/j/218320655. This is a temporary measure in light of the health concerns. Services will not be recorded. The link will be live five minutes before the scheduled start of services (5:55pm Friday night\, 9:55am Saturday morning). \n\nAnyone who is in a high risk group is STRONGLY encouraged to stay home and join us virtually. High risk includes: 1) anyone over 60 – even if you are healthy; 2) anyone with a chronic health condition such as heart disease\, lung disease\, or diabetes; 3) anyone with a compromised immune system; 4) pregnant women.\nThe Conservative Movement’s Law Committee has stated that it’s possible to join a minyan remotely for purposes of saying kaddish or joining in communal responses such as the barchu and kedushah.\n\nWe will not have kiddush following services on Saturday\, or pre-neg before services on Friday night. \n\n\n\n\n\nAll services\, including weekday minyan\, will take place in the main sanctuary\, and those present will be asked to spread out. The health department advises that 6’ is a safe distance. \n\n\nWe’ve established new protocols\, such as no hand shaking or hugs\, no kissing ritual objects\, etc.

SUMMARY:Annual Blood Drive
DESCRIPTION:PLAN AHEAD! Please remember that you cannot give blood for 8 weeks (after January 19) leading up to your blood donation.\nSchedule your time slot now at: h-nt.org/save-a-life \nHNT’s Annual Blood Drive honors the memory and last wish of Ellen Yusim z”l\, a teenage congregant whose family was sponsored by our synagogue when they resettled in Seattle from the former Soviet Union. Ellen succumbed to leukemia at age 16 and it was her final request to have an annual blood drive to help others in need of transfusions. \nShe understood how her very life depended on donors and wished that gift to be carried forward in her name. Every day it takes more than 800 donors to meet the transfusion needs of Western Washington. It is easy to perform this mitzvah! Register for your timeslot at h-nt.org/save-a-life

SUMMARY:Shabbat Services with Zoom Live Broadcast
DESCRIPTION:Virtual Services – Shabbat and Weekday/Sunday Minyan \nIn an effort to give us more opportunities to pray together as a community during these trying times\, we are going to have virtual services for BOTH Shabbat and Sunday/weekday minyan\, effective immediately. \nSaturday’s service will be a full standard service with a few differences.\nSince we won’t have Torah readers coming into the synagogue\, instead of doing the full Torah service we will say a blessing for Torah study\, and a few people will chant the Torah portion from a chumash from their homes. Rav Barry will still be giving a d’var Torah relating to Refugee Shabbat. \nWe invite you to have some wine or grape juice ready at home to join us for kiddush at the end of the services (both Friday and Saturday). We will also leave the meeting link open after services on Shabbat if people want to socialize or virtually have lunch together. \nIf you prefer not to handle electronic devices on Shabbat\, you can set it up before Shabbat\, login to our Virtual Service\, and just stay logged in until after Shabbat. If you do that\, you might want to have your device setup in a place where anyone watching would not see what’s going on in your home when you’re not praying with us. \nPlease note we need to have a two-way video and sound connection to be able to count people for a minyan\, so please have your video and sound on if you want to be counted. The rationale used from a halachic perspective for allowing the formation of a minyan remotely is based on a source in the Talmud that indicates people who can see and hear each other can count together for a minyan\, even if they are not in the same place. If you are with us on the video connection\, you can recite kaddish and fully participate in all parts of the prayer service. These rules aren’t intended to be for the long run – they are an emergency measure because of these extraordinary times. \nThese are the scheduled service times: \nFriday night: 6:00 PM to approximately 7:00 PM\nSaturday morning: 10:00 AM to approximately 11:45 AM\nSunday morning daily minyan: 9:00 AM\nMonday to Friday morning daily minyan: 8:00 AM \nYou can join our Virtual Services on any desktop computer\, laptop\, tablet\, or smartphone. You can use a landline to have an audio-only connection. \nTo join in for any of these services\, click the link below. It may prompt you to install an app. Allow a couple of minutes for the procedure the first time you use Zoom. \nhttps://zoom.us/j/814064429 \nOne tap mobile:\n+16699006833\,\,814064429# \nClick here for a simple video describing how to join a Zoom gathering: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362193-How-Do-I-Join-A-Meeting- \nIf you run into further problems trying to use Zoom\, please email RavBarry@h-nt.org before or after Shabbat and either I’ll try and talk you through it\, or I’ll get a volunteer to help you. You can try the link at anytime to test if your setup is working. \nIf you have been diagnosed with COVID-19 or have been placed in quarantine\, or have quarantined yourself\, please let us know. We are looking at ways that we can support members of our community who are struggling because of this crisis.

SUMMARY:National Refugee Shabbat 5780
DESCRIPTION:In the course of Jewish history\, we have often been refugees who faced and overcame great hardships to create a new life in another land. On this Shabbat\, Jews across the entire country will be commemorating our past and discussing critical issues pertaining to refugees today. During services\, Rav Barry will talk about Jewish perspectives and values which inform our actions regarding the challenges refugees face today. \nWe regretfully must postpone the presentations by Talya Gillman\, Outreach and Education Manager of Jewish Family Service Seattle\, including the afternoon discussion.

SUMMARY:Virtual Morning Minyan
DESCRIPTION:In an effort to give us more opportunities to pray together as a community during these trying times\, we are going to have virtual services for BOTH Shabbat and Sunday/weekday minyan. \nScheduled Service Times: \n\nFriday night: 6:00 PM to approximately 7:00 PM\nSaturday morning: 10:00 AM to approximately 11:45 AM\nSunday morning daily minyan: 9:00 AM\nMonday to Friday morning daily minyan: 8:00 AM\n\nHow to Connect: \n\nYou can join our Virtual Services on any desktop computer\, laptop\, tablet\, or smartphone at https://zoom.us/j/814064429. It may prompt you to install an app. Allow a couple of minutes for the procedure the first time you use Zoom.\nYou can use a landline to have an audio-only connection by dialing +1669-900-6833\,\,814064429#\n\nFor a simple video describing how to join a Zoom gathering\, visit https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362193-How-Do-I-Join-A-Meeting- \nIf you run into further problems trying to use Zoom\, please email RavBarry@h-nt.org before or after Shabbat and he’ll either try and talk you through it or get a volunteer to help you. You can try the Zoom link at anytime to test if your setup is working. \nMaking a Minyan: \nPlease note we need to have a two-way video and sound connection to be able to count people for a minyan\, so please have your video and sound on if you want to be counted. \nWe invite you to have some wine or grape juice ready at home to join us for kiddush at the end of the services (both Friday and Saturday). We will also leave the meeting link open after services on Shabbat if people want to socialize or virtually have lunch together.

If you have a lot of background noise\, or are having a side conversation\, please mute yourself. While normally we encourage people to sing loudly and join our voices in prayer\, that doesn’t work so well on Zoom – so please join in with a lower volume than you would use at the synagogue\, so everyone can hear the prayer leader. For some services we will have co-hosts assigned who will mute anyone isn’t muting themselves whose volume or background noise is disruptive to others. \nWe invite you to have some wine or grape juice ready at home to join us for kiddush at the end of the services (both Friday and Saturday).
