DESCRIPTION:HNT’s Annual Blood Drive honors the memory and last wish of Ellen Yusim z”l\, a teenage congregant whose family was sponsored by our synagogue when they resettled in Seattle from the former Soviet Union. Ellen succumbed to leukemia at age 16 and it was her final request to have an annual blood drive to help others in need of transfusions. She understood how her very life depended on donors and wished that gift to be carried forward in her name. It also honors the memory of our other loved ones whose lives have been impacted by blood-related diseases\, as well as those among us who depend on a steady supply of blood. \nEvery day it takes more than 800 donors to meet the transfusion needs of Western Washington. DESCRIPTION:As a member of Congregations for the Homeless\, which strives to mitigate the pain of homelessness by providing meals and basic needs\, HNT aspires to provide at least one monthly meal for 80 men during the colder months. \nHow you can help: \n\nRSVP to prepare one or more dishes for the meal on March 12\, captained by Julie Ellenhorn & Cynthia Flash Hemphill\nThis is a great activity for families\, friends\, your book group\, or chavurah\, and HNT will provide organizational support. It’s all done potluck-style with food you can buy or make at home. You can drop off your food or stay to help serve and talk with the residents. You choose the date that works for your group. DESCRIPTION:Youth Lounge\nAll Garinim parents are invited to learn how to make challah with master baker Stefan Ahrensdorf during this time in the youth lounge at HNT. Continue your own learning while your kids are in class. Learn the intricacies and special techniques of challah making in this fun\, experiential workshop. We’ll explore different methods for kneading as well as different braiding techniques. In addition\, we’ll talk about the fundamental concepts of bread making and ingredients. Of course\, the class wouldn’t be complete without sampling fresh baked Challah and sending you home with a loaf to bake off at home. No prior experience is needed but we do need you to let us now if you can make it so we are sure to have enough supplies on hand. SUMMARY:American Celebrity & Jewish Identity High School Class
DESCRIPTION:We have crafted a new and innovative class and a trip to Los Angeles for teens based on American Jewish celebrity and Jewish identity formation. Due to the huge success of the NYC trip last year\, generously supported by Gwenn and Dean Polik\, we are excited to be offering a five-day trip experience to LA from April 8-12\, 2018. \nThe trip will be connected to the eight monthly specialized classes taught by Dr. Krigel and guest speakers. A light dinner each session is included in the overall tuition. Please contact Dr. Krigel at eliyahu@h-nt.org for more information. Due to the generosity of Gwenn and Dean Polik\, we are able to provide this program to our members for $1\,550 for the 8 sessions (dinner included) plus transportation\, lodging\, and the entire program for the 5-day trip.
