SUMMARY:Congregational Code Amendment Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Maximizing our property’s potential\, creating a bigger sense of community through Jewish partnerships\, and fostering a strong financial base have been high priorities for HNT. While still very preliminary\, our team has begun some discussions with the Jewish Day School (JDS) about a partnership\, which is a promising move toward achieving these priorities. Our discussions with JDS center around allowing them to build their school at the western most part of our property (known as Barnabie Point).  We do not know yet know whether this will be allowed by the city because of an inconsistency between the zoning and the comprehensive city plan. To resolve this inconsistency\, we submitted a code amendment to the city of Mercer Island. If the code amendment is approved\, it does not commit HNT to JDS\, but it would allow us to further explore partnering with JDS on our property. \nThe Mercer Island Planning Commission is holding a hearing this Wednesday\, October 27 to start the process\, which will be followed by a discussion of the code amendment in December by the Mercer Island City Council. We are excited to share this first step with you and will keep you posted as we progress through this process. We provide a hot lunch for 25-30 which can be dropped off Friday afternoon or Sunday morning by 10:30 AM at the day center in the U District\, or arrange an earlier drop off with Nadine. DESCRIPTION:IN-PERSON at HNT\, Youth Lounge  \nJoin USY Seattle Achim for our first in-person event this year! We are SO excited to finally be able to meet in-person and spend time together while also helping our community. We will have Jew-pardy and socializing (plus the Seahawks game on TV)\, with the added bonus of a food drive! Please bring canned food- we will collect and donate it during the event. Jew-pardy will take place from ~12:15 PM to 1:00 PM\, and we will pack donated food after the game has concluded. The Seahawks kick off at 1:30 PM\, and we will have the game on the Youth Lounge TV for those who would like to stay and socialize until 2 PM. A reminder that per HNT policy\, USY in-person event attendees must be fully vaccinated\, with masks required at all times on the property\, and with proper social distancing.
