Introduction to Judaism Taught by Rabbi Cahana

Join Rabbi Cahana for Introduction to Judaism, an engaging course for interfaith couples, those raising Jewish children, spiritual seekers, individuals considering conversion, and Jews looking to reconnect with their faith as adults.

Please acquire Etz Chaim and Lev Shalem. Further reading list to be determined.

Conversion students must also complete one year of Beginning Hebrew with Janine Rosenbaum—unless waived by Rabbi Cahana.

Learn to Leyn in 8 Easy Lessons – Taught by Cantor Batchelor

Always wanted to learn to chant Torah but thought it was too hard? This fun and engaging class is designed to get you up on your
feet and chanting Torah in time for the Shavuot holiday. For adult and post-b’nai mitzvah teens that have basic Hebrew reading
fluency.

Introduction to Mussar

Wednesdays, 4/29, 5/6, 5/13, 5/20, 5/27 • 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM

This class will be given by Mussar accredited teacher Hilary Abramowitz

This six-session Mussar course explores how to practice Mussar in daily life through meaningful “Mussar Moments.” Together, we will examine how we choose to live, deepen our spiritual awareness, and reflect on our relationships with ourselves, others, and the world. Through personal exploration and inner reflection, the course emphasizes Tikkun Olam—healing the world by first healing ourselves.

Required Reading
There are two required texts for this class, both of which can be purchased on Amazon: Everyday Holiness by Alan Morinis & Soul Construction by Ruchi Koval

Class Preparation
Please read Chapter 1 of Soul Construction (pages 8–26, on Favorable Judgement) before the first class session.

Beginning Hebrew

Did you always want to learn to read and write Hebrew? This is your chance to study in a safe, warm and friendly atmosphere.

Book: New students must purchase the book “L’Shonee Aleph” and the accompanying workbook, “L’Shonee Aleph” in advance of the first class. The workbook might be out of print. If so, contact Janine and she can get you a copy.

You must take Hebrew for one year if you are planning on converting to Judaism at Herzl-Ner Tamid. Please speak with the Rabbi about possibly waving this requirement if you have already had one year of Hebrew.

Prayerbook Hebrew

Do you secretly feel like you are the only one who doesn’t know what is going on during the service? This class will prepare you for full participation in Shabbatmorning services. You will acquire synagogue and Hebrew-reading skills and gain confidence in your knowledge of the service. Very basic knowledge of Hebrew required.

Biblical Hebrew

This class will be a simple, straightforward guide to Biblical Hebrew. By the end of the Primer, you will have learned most words that occur 200 or more times in the Bible. This should make the transition to reading Biblical texts as easy as possible. You will be amazed at how much of the weekly Torah portion you will be able to understand in the original Hebrew.

Book: Students must purchase “The First Hebrew Primer: The Adult Beginner’s Path to Biblical Hebrew” by Ethelyn Simon, Irene Resnikoff and Linda Motzkin, EKS Publishing before the first class.
