9 Adar: the Jewish Day of Conflict Resolution
In the Talmud, the 9th of Adar was declared a fast day because on this day the two great schools of Jewish thought, the House of Hillel and the House of Shammai, lost their ability to engage in civil discourse (machloket l’shem shamayim). The Pardes Center of Jewish Conflict Resolution has revived the memory of 9 Adar and transformed it into a day for the Jewish people to commit ourselves in new and creative ways to conflict resolution in our community and in the world.
