Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer’s Day? New Ways of Imagining God

November 8, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Taught by Rabbi Jay Rosenbaum
Monday nights, October 25, November 1, 8, 15
7:00 PM – 8:30 PM via Zoom

How do we describe the indescribable? We will explore the connection between the difficulty of describing God and the challenge of articulating our own deepest and most moving life experiences.  In the process, we will learn what Shakespeare and the Rabbis taught us about God’s uncontainability and our own.

Among the questions we will explore:

  • Why does it matter how we describe God?
  • What are the human experiences we have that we find difficult to capture in words?
  • What are the dangers of describing people inadequately, and what does this have to do with God?
  • What do great art and music have to teach us about Jewish spirituality?
  • What is the connection between God and the release of human potential?
